Felix Baumgartner space jump
A gallery of screen shots plus video of Felix Baumgartner’s jump from space. The images show him attempting and succeeding in breaking multiple world records in the Redbull Stratos space jump.
Standing on the skateboard-sized platform at around 39 kilometres above the Earth Felix Baumgartner says ‘I’m going home now’ then he jumps.
And Felix Baumgartner is off! Breaking records as he falls from just shy of 40 kilometres above the Earth.
Soon after Baumgartner left the platform he went into a flat spin which he later says almost made him abort….
The title credits Baumgarner with the highest freefall as his second record a few milliseconds into the jump. Kittinger, who was in contact with Felix Baumgartner thorughout the event retained this record of longest freefall from his 1960 jump.
After jumping from 39 kilometres up, freefalling for over four minutes, breaking the sound barrier and landing safely on terrafirma Felix Baumgartner and Redbull Stratos break all sorts of records. You Tube record viewers in excess of a reported 8 million simultaneous views. Twitter appears focussed for once too.
The whole exercise is an absolute success. Considering the risks involved this an incredible achievement.
Congratulations and well done to Felix, Redbull and all involved. Incredible!
